Dist. 40 Candidate Eddie Saenz Charged With DWI

Via Capitol Annex, one of the more interesting races for state representative took an interesting turn when candidate Eddie Saenz was charged by the Mission police department for Driving While Intoxicated.

Television footage showing the candidate before the court may spell trouble for the Edinburg businessman. Saenz through his lawyer has said that he would fight the charges and that there was not a cover-up as critics have alleged. Saenz recently announced his intention to run for a second time against incumbent representative Aaron Pena.

Capitol Annex Calls for Peña's Re-election

The Chairman of the Texas Progressive Alliance, Vince Leibowitz, comes out in a recent Capitol Annex post calling for the re-election of State Representative Aaron Peña. The former Texas Chairman of the Tejano Democrats is expecting opposition from a perennial candidate in the coming March primary. Many of us here are pleased with the years Peña has spent in the trenches of the Democratic Party and wish him well.
