Trick or Treat! Texas Democratic Party Chair Stepping Down?

Rumors rapidly circulating through some corners are that Charles Soechting, the Chair of the Texas Democratic Party will be stepping down soon as party chair.

This is significant because the same sort of rumors circulated for months before former Chair, Molly Beth Malcom stepped down from her seat. Although many denied it and Molly Beth swore she would see it to the end, she as rumored left the office before an election could be held at a state convention.

Why is this highly un-democratic mode of tranferance of power, if the rumors are true, the preferred method of replacing a State Chairman? Many in the Tejano community have seen the insiders game as a way to keep a Hispanic Chair from taking the helm. If the same people who have lost a number of elections continue to have their way look for an East Texas non-Latino, non-African American to emerge as the front runner should our current Chair step down.

This commentator is tired of the repeated hollow promises and calls for the next Chair to be more representative of the diversity that is Texas.
